If you’re reading this post, then the chances are you’ve followed the link I sent you to my new website: Welcome to ‘Smoke and Memories’.
I’ve been agonizing over what to write on my first blog post for some time now, and this has some what delayed the ‘public’ unveiling of my site. Never having had a website or a public blog before I’ve been a little perplexed about this particular aspect of it. I’ve read many different blogs in my quest to discover a purpose for mine; some bloggers offer detailed daily insights into their lives (warts and all), others post scant scraps of information. After days of consideration I decided to find a middle ground; I don’t want to bore you all with the trials of single motherhood (believe me, I could go on…) but equally I want it to be more than “there are some new photos posted, take a look”.
So I’m not sure how well this will work, but I will strive to keep you updated with the adventures of me, my girls and our extended family. It won’t always be madly exciting, but hopefully I’ll manage to project a modicum of humour into it!
So why the website in the first place?
When I was bought out of my house I decided to allow myself three extravagances before locking the money away for my future: an ipod big enough to fit my entire music collection on, a car stereo that would play the a fore mentioned ipod and a new camera. The new camera was soon being put to good use taking pictures of well, anything and everything that took my fancy. From a day seeking out graffiti on the streets of London with Darren, to fun days out with my girls; I really can’t stop taking pictures. But it felt like such a waste just leaving them sitting on my hard drive. I suggested to Darren that I might start uploading my photos to Picasa so that they at least saw the light of day, and within weeks Smoke and Memories was born. With at least four personal websites to his name, he felt I would be far better off having my own website to post the photos on.
I couldn’t have done this without him (or at least it wouldn’t have looked half as good). “Thank you, honey.”
Editing photos takes quite a lot of time, so I’ve not been able to put a whole back catalogue on here as yet. I decided that if I waited until I was completely up to date with the photos (or at least up to date since I purchased the new camera), I probably wouldn’t get this website launched this side of next Christmas. So here we have it, my website launched with galleries from Eleni’s birthday, our holiday in the South of France with Nana and Grandad and my day in London with Darren. As time allows I will plod on with editing the back catalogue, and I’ll let you know when they’re up.
Don’t forget you’ll need a login to get at the photos, so visit the contact page and send me a request. I hope you enjoy looking at the photos and reading about what we’ve been up to.
No need to thank me, it’s the least I could do my dear…which really doesn’t make much sense because it makes it sound like I couldn’t be bothered to do any more?!
Glad you like the site and that you’re managing to use it on your own, creating galleries and posting updates 🙂
Good luck with the site Shelli, I hope to be geting with Mum and Tony soon when I get back from Lee’s wedding in USA.
